🖼️ Title:Cartography of the Human Pulse 📅 Year: 2015 🎨 Medium: Acrylic and Pen on Paper 📏 Size: 22 x 14 inches 👤 Artist: Mohd Syeed
emerged during my formative years at the Department of Music and Fine Arts, University of Kashmir. It was a time of discovery, of learning how to see not just with the eyes, but with emotion. Under the mentorship of Rakesh Sir, who taught me the subject of composition, I encountered one life-changing idea — pictorial freedom. He encouraged me to break away from traditional boundaries and let the artwork breathe on its own. That teaching became the heartbeat of this piece.
began as an experiment — a question to myself: Can emotion become a map?
I used my sketchbook as a field of exploration, tracing human figures in multimedia, representing the shared consciousness of humanity. Each figure overlaps the other, forming a visual metaphor for how our identities, histories, and experiences intertwine.
The flowing red and orange lines that cross these forms are not borders — they are bridges. They represent the living pulse of the world, the rhythm that connects people, cultures, and inner lives. Through this imagery, geography transforms into emotion, and the map of the world becomes a map of the human heart.
was created using pen and Acyrlic on paper, tools that allowed both precision and spontaneity. The pen marks carve the structure of human presence, while the color drips introduce organic movement — symbolizing life, uncertainty, and flow.
Every line and drop became part of a rhythm — a pulse that mirrors the unseen energy connecting us all.
continues my larger artistic philosophy, Cosmomapping — the art of tracing invisible relationships between self, society, and the universe. In Cartography of the Human Pulse, the act of mapping moves beyond physical territory; it becomes emotional, spiritual, and deeply human.
Cosmomapping suggests that art is a universal dialogue — one that turns isolation into belonging and chaos into communication. Here, the artist becomes a global citizen, mapping not places, but emotional geographies.
is not about a specific place — it is about a condition: the experience of being part of the whole world.
It speaks of belonging that transcends borders, of individuality merging with universality. Each mark on the surface becomes both a wound and a window — pain and possibility coexisting within one frame.
Through this, I realized that art is not a mirror but a pulse — a living rhythm that beats through all of humanity.
This work remains a reminder of my learning — of Rakesh Sir’s guidance, of the freedom found in composition, and of my journey from the classroom to the cosmos.
For me, this painting is a declaration that the artist belongs everywhere the human pulse beats.
