Cosmopolitan Artist Challenges Global Parents on the Limits of Parent- and Student-Centred Education

Srinagar: Cosmopolitan Artist has issued a sharply reasoned open statement to parents worldwide, questioning whether modern education is gradually shifting from educating children to accommodating parental expectations and student sensitivities.

In his handwritten message, the artist argues that a healthy education system must distinguish between listening and unquestioningly believing, protecting and overprotecting, and disciplining and humiliating. He maintains that children deserve to be heard and respected, but education cannot fulfil its purpose if every correction is interpreted as harm and every student grievance becomes unquestionable authority.

The artist further cautions that excessive parental pressure, favouritism, nepotism and commercial interests can weaken the professional autonomy of teachers and transform schools from institutions of character-building into institutions of appeasement.

His central argument is philosophical but practical: education is not merely the protection of a child’s present comfort; it is the preparation of a human being for the responsibilities of life.

Calling for a balance between child rights, parental responsibility, teacher accountability and institutional integrity, the artist concludes that protecting children from every form of correction may ultimately deprive them of one of education’s most important lessons—the ability to recognise mistakes, accept responsibility and grow from them.

“The greatest injustice we can do to a child is not to correct them—it is to convince them that they are beyond correction.”
